Foster Parenting

Each year from March until September, we take in many pregnant and orphaned, underage animals. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to care for all of these mothers and babies, but we remain strongly committed to helping them. Therefore, we ask you to help us by becoming a foster parent. Foster parents take pregnant moms and/or extremely young babies into their own home where they care for them until the animals are ready for adoption. Before being placed in a foster home, all moms are tested and vaccinated.

If you're thinking of becoming a foster parent, we know many experienced foster parents who will be happy to answer your questions and tell you of their experiences. These folks are also willing to act as mentors and help guide you through the process, should you decide to open your home to a needy animal. We hope you will join our other foster parents who have found the experience to be very rewarding!

Foster Parenting Cats:
We have approximately 30-40 stray, pregnant cats and hundreds of kittens in need of foster homes each year. We are looking for foster parents to take in a pregnant mom, provide her with loads of TLC and socialize with her kittens until they reach 9-10 weeks of age. After 9-10 weeks, mom can be spayed and she and her kittens can be placed for permanent adoption.

We also need foster parents who are willing to take in orphaned kittens and mother them until they are 9-10 weeks old. Many of our orphaned kittens are feral (kittens born outside), and some are fearful of humans. We need foster parents who can work with these kittens to socialize them, guaranteeing that they will find a permanent, loving home all the more quickly. We simply can't overstate how rewarding it is to foster!

Foster Parenting Dogs:
Although the number of pregnant dogs and orphaned puppies is fewer than their feline counterparts, we still have the need for foster canine parents. Foster parenting dogs and puppies is a big commitment and requires a great deal of time. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in foster caring a canine mom and/or her puppies.

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please visit the shelter and fill out a Foster Home Application.
