Foster Mom Brings Comfort to Abandoned Cat

foster cat MammothOriginally found abandoned in the winter, Mammoth arrived at Baypath extremely distressed. After all the upheaval in his life, he understandably had trouble adjusting to shelter life. He didn’t want people near him, which would make him difficult to adopt. In frightened cats this stress can turn into nipping, so it was important to find a way to help Mammoth relax.

Fortunately, one of our dedicated cat volunteers, Kathy R, was able to foster Mammoth in her home. The transformation in his behavior was quite remarkable and she exclaimed that he was one of the easiest cats to foster.

Having a calm respite gave Mammoth the room to come out of his shell and show off his true self. He approached her for ear scratches and had fun playing with the cats in his foster home.

Soon Mammoth won the heart of a young woman and was adopted. We were thrilled to get a letter (from Mammoth!), letting us know how he’s doing.

“I am doing exceptionally well in my new home. I am a big sweetheart and also a very loving and gentle kitty.

My name has been changed from Mammoth to BJ. My mom also calls me Big Guy.

I settled in very quick into my new home. I feel like I have been here fur-ever. I love to play with my mice and bat them all over the house. I especially love my new fishing poles. I cuddle on the couch at night with my mom. I just love being pampered!

My mom tells me I’m a lot of fun. She can’t imagine not having me and it’s nice to have me waiting for her when she comes home.

Please say hello to my foster mom and let her know how I am doing. She did a great job getting me ready for my forever home. Thank you all for helping to bring my new mom into my life.”
